The Farm

I got back to Muskegon from Delaware on November 9th I believe. Overall it was a great trip. I really had a good time and learned so much. What I learned however, I can’t just restate and really have trouble describing. Things spanning over so many different disciplines, ideologies, philosophies and more. Though I really only ended up being there for a month and a half, I feel like I was there for so much longer. I was able to go to some neat events and places and happenings and experience life in, literally, a whole different culture. I think that it is safe to say that I learned more there than I learned all year in college last year. Don’t get me wrong, I learned a lot in college, memorized a lot of facts, studied new things, but the fact of the matter is that most(but not all) of those things were simply exercises in memorizing and then dumping to make way for new information that would be stored and purged in the same way. The people, though, were what made that year of college valuable and the farm in Delaware itself had no shortage of characters…As far as recommending WWOOFing (the program/directory I found the farm in) I would say that it hugely depends on both the person considering it and where they would like to go. I myself only went to one farm but from the stories I heard from other WWOOFers it’s clear that there is a huge array of different opportunities out there catering to different people. If you would like to check it out, go to http://www.wwoofusa.org or google “wwwoof (whatever country you want)” if you’re looking for international opportunities.
